When the Elizabeth line opened in May 2022, Keith decided to travel the whole length of it and one day went to Reading for lunch because 42 miles on the Freedom Pass was a freedom to be experienced.
The station's old ticket office is now a pub, the Three Guineas, and he took lunch there.
This gave him the idea of travelling down each rail line out of London, to the Freedom Pass travel limit and finding a nearby pub (i.e. less than 10 mins walk) for lunch. The only proviso is that the Tube is a no no for Keith because it is so small, cramped and airless, the Underground is OK.
Two stations, Amersham and West Ruislip, are not attainable without the Tube and 17 were found to have no nearby pub. In these cases the next station down the line with a pub was visited instead, e.g. Chessington North instead of Chessington South.
