‘B’ is also for Barnehurst

On the train going down to Barnehurst, Anthony looked up The
Red Barn and discovered it didn’t serve food at lunchtime. The positive is that
it allowed food to be taken in and eaten there.
Keith had not bothered to check because we had eaten there just a few weeks earlier.
This time we were joined not only by Anthony but Mark Gingell also came along. In fact, he was there before us. He had got to the station in time to catch the earlier train and when we arrived he was already ensconced with a pint of Guinness in the pub garden.
Keith and Anthony ordered pints of Guinness and I ordered my
usual lager. “Can I take a picture of you?” asked the barmaid.
“It is the brewery’s birthday and it is giving away a free pint if I can take a photograph of you for their publicity,” she said.
She took the photograph and I got a free pint. It’s the first time I have ever been given a free pint in a pub.
Then, to the food!
We decided on fish and chips as it was only a couple of doors away.

“Give me 10 minutes and you can collect them,” said the shop assistant.
Back to the pub for a couple of swallows and then Mark volunteered to collect our lunch.

Lunch was delicious! A large box of plaice and chips.
We talked of many things and had a good time and got to the
station in time for the 3.01pm back to Lewisham.
